NPD Award Criteria

Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy (Grades K-12) Award

Presented to an individual or group of young people in grades K-12 who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the community through direct financial support, development of charitable programs, volunteering, and leadership in philanthropy. The specific criteria for the award are:
  1. Description of the time, talents and/or treasure the nominee(s) gave to the common good. Please include: goals, description of the process/project, the budget (if applicable), and adults/advisors involved. (0-40 points)
  2. Description of the impact the nominee(s) had on the community, including the number of people involved, the financial impact, the organizations that benefited, etc. Include the names/contact information of individuals at the organizations the nominee(s) served (0-30 points)
  3. Description of the long-term impact of the nominee(s) efforts, and his/her/their plans to continue working toward the common good (0-20 points)
  4. Evidence that the project can serve as a prototype for others and/or is easily replicable in other communities (0-10 points) 

Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy (College) Award

Presented to an individual or group of young people of college age who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the community through direct financial support, development of charitable programs, volunteering, and leadership in philanthropy. The specific criteria for the award are:
  1. Description of the time, talents and/or treasure the nominee(s) gave to the common good. Please include: goals, description of the process/project, the budget (if applicable), and adults/advisors involved. (0-40 points)
  2. Description of the impact the nominee(s) had on the community, including the number of people involved, the financial impact, the organizations that benefited, etc. Include the names/contact information of individuals at the organizations the nominee(s) served (0-30 points)
  3. Description of the long-term impact of the nominee(s) efforts, and his/her/their plans to continue working toward the common good (0-20 points)
  4. Evidence that the project can serve as a prototype for others and/or is easily replicable in other communities (0-10 points)

Outstanding Corporate Philanthropist Award

Presented to a corporation (or its corporate foundation) with a strong record of exceptional financial generosity, commitment to philanthropy, and leadership in motivating others in the business community to become involved in philanthropic endeavors that benefit society. The specific criteria for the award are:
  1. Evidence of philanthropic support of innovative approaches to solving problems locally, nationally and/or internationally (0-45 points)
  2. Evidence of direct gift, in-kind, or volunteer support and a description of its impact (0-40 points)
  3. Evidence of encouragement and motivation given to others to take leadership roles toward philanthropy and community involvement (0-15 points) 

Outstanding Philanthropist Award

Presented to an individual or family with a proven record of exceptional generosity who, through direct financial support, has demonstrated outstanding civic and charitable responsibility, and whose example encourages others to take philanthropic leadership roles. The specific criteria for the award are:
  1. Description of participation in and gift support of nonprofit organizations locally, nationally and/or internationally (0-65 points)
  2. Evidence of encouragement and motivation given to others to take leadership roles in philanthropy, i.e. challenge gifts, matching gifts, volunteering, etc. (0-25 points)
  3. Description of philanthropic support of innovative approaches to solving problems (0-10 points)

Outstanding Nonprofit Leader Award

 This award recognizes the service of a nonprofit leader for his or her commitment to the associated organization and the community. Specific criteria for the award are:

  1. A description of the time, talents, and/or treasure the nominee gave to his or her organization and the common good (0-40 points)
  2. Examples of what the nominee has done to distinguish him/herself from others (0-30 points)
  3. A description of the impact the nominee has had on the community (0-20 points)
  4. Evidence of ways the nominee has reached outside his/her own organization to help the community; may include evidence of collaborations with other organizations (0-10 points)
